Our funeral homes are family owned and operated businesses. We are large enough to give our families the same service as the largest funeral homes around, yet we are small enough that each family gets the level of attention and care they deserve.

Robert Bacon was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Elkhart, Indiana and Carol Stream Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He graduated from Glenbard North High School in 1973. Attended Northern Illinois University and graduated from Vennard College in University Park, Iowa with a B.A. in Bible and pastoral ministries. He then went on to Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago and became a licensed funeral director in 1980. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol, in 1976. They have 4 children. Joanna is a teacher in Iowa Falls, Jennifer is a medical transcriptionist at McFarland Clinic in Ames, Jon and Jeff are twins. Jeff is a student at Iowa State University and Jon is a student at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny. Rob has served on many boards and committees throughout his career. He has served as Alumni President of Vennard College for 6 years, a member of the Board of Trustees of Vennard College; the Board of Governors of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association for 6 six years. He is a member of the Nevada Rotary Club where he was voted into the Rotary Hall of Fame in 2006, Nevada Community Band Committee, Nevada Variety Show Committee, and a former Maxwell City Councilman. Rob is a musician. He toured Europe with the Chicagoland Chorale performing in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and England on his 'cello. He has performed with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra, the Oskaloosa Chamber Orchestra, and the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra. He also sings, plays the banjo, piano and is trying to learn the guitar. Rob has been involved in funeral service since 1978. He worked at Powers Funeral Home in Oskaloosa until 1983 and the moved to Fremont, Iowa where he managed the Fremont Funeral Chapel. In 1989, a partnership was formed and Rob served as President of Harden Funeral Homes, Inc, until moving here in 1997 when he and his wife purchased the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell and the Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. In 2002, Rob and Carol took ownership of the Camelot Theatre in Nevada. The theatre had been closed for almost 2 years. Opening night was a great success with a sellout crowd to see Santa Clause 2. Rob insisted that the Camelot was just his hobby, although he will admit that it did take a "few more hours a week than I first thought it would." Rob also serves as a lay speaker and has spoken many times at many area churches. He is presently serving as Director of Minitries at Maxwell Methodist Church. On March 9, 2010, Rob filed official papers with the Iowa Secretary of State in Des Moines to be elected into the Iowa State Senate. On November 2, 2010, the people of Iowa Senate District 5 voted for him to serve as their senator.

Funeral Director

Justin Rasmusson was born in Nevada and grew up on a farm outside of Zearing. He graduated in 2002 from Colo-Nesco High School. He then obtained his Associates Degree from Des Moines Area Community College in 2005. He then enrolled in the Mortuary Science Program at DMACC, graduating in 2006. Since 2002, Justin worked for Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines. He completed his internship, and obtained his funeral director license in 2007; and continued working there until February of 2010. He started with Bacon Funeral Home in March of 2010, and is very honored to be assisting the families in the Story County area. Justin is a member of the Nevada Kiwanis Club and the Iowa Funeral Directors Association. Funeral service is a passion for Justin, something he feels one must have to succeed. Justin is the son of Larry & Angela Rasmusson. Larry & Angie live in Nevada and own Midwest Pack. Justin has two brothers, Bryce, who lives in Jesup with his wife, Heather and children, Madison and Riley, and Logan and his wife Tesla, along with their son, Asher who live outside of Zearing. In his spare time, Justin enjoys his dogs, traveling, camping, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

Tom Poppe was born in Coggon, Iowa. He lives in Colo and is currently serving the Zearing United Methodist Church as Temporary Pulpit Supply. Tom is married to Bonnie, together they have two daughters and six grandchildren. Tom enjoys reading and fishing.
